Lumecca IPL and Photofacial
What It Is
IPL(Intense Pulse Light) is an innovative light treatment that effectively penetrates the epidermis and targets and breaks down the cells that produce melanin in the skin. Lumecca IPL is a versatile treatment that has been found beneficial in addressing a wide range of skin concerns, including:
Hyperpigmentation issues, such as sun spots, freckles and birthmarks
Skin discoloration due to ageing and sun damage
Melasma
Rosacea, a skin condition that causes redness and makes blood vessels visible
Capillaries and telangectasias, which are superficial veins that appear that visible under the skin
Treatment Areas
Although frequently used as a facial treatment, Lumecca IPL also produces excellent results when used in the neck, chest, hands, shoulders, legs, underarms, or bikini area.
How to Prepare
Here at Biomend we carefully evaluate our patient’s overall health and skin condition before proceeding to administer any of our skin treatments.
You will be asked to avoid getting direct sun exposure or skip your trips to tanning salons for at least a week before your IPL treatment.
If you are taking supplements or prescription drugs that contain ingredients that increase your risk for bleeding (including aspirin and ibuprofen), your clinician may advise you to stop taking them if at all possible. The application of skincare products and make-up that have vitamin A or glycolic acid may also be stopped for a period prior to treatment.

How It Works
Here’s what to expect during your IPL appointment. Our clinician will begin by cleansing the treatment area as part of our standard operating procedure. You may be asked to wear protective glasses to shield your eyes from the laser light. The treatment site will be repetitively exposed to the laser treatment for about 20 minutes, depending on your case.
Results You Can Expect
The skin in the treatment will have some redness, swelling, or warm to the touch. Don’t
worry. These post-treatment effects will resolve on their own after a couple of hours. The results of IPL are gradual and subtle. It also varies depending on the skin issue you are addressing.
If you are having IPL for sun damage or to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, there will be some noticeable improvements after a few days. Your skin may appear brighter, clearer, and more refreshed. However, your clinician may recommend a series of treatments to achieve the best possible results.
Aftercare and Recovery
The beauty of our Lumecca IPL Photo Facial treatment is that there is no significant downtime. You do not need to take an extended vacation from work or your active social life. We have seen patients who have returned to their regular day to day activities a few hours after they received treatment. You are also free to put on make-up the next day.
Nevertheless, there are aftercare measures that should be strictly followed. Like all laser treatments, IPL makes your skin more sensitive to the sun and UV light. You must avoid any form of direct sun exposure and tanning beds. Wearing sunscreen with a high sun protection factor or SPF will not only shield your skin from the harsh sunlight but also extend the benefits of IPL.
Potential Complications
As previously mentioned, IPL is a safe skin treatment with lots of amazing benefits. Nevertheless, certain individuals may not be ideal candidates for it, like those with darker skin color. Sun exposure can potentially lead to unpleasant side effects, such as permanent skin discoloration.
As with any medical procedures, there are some reports of inflammation, bruising, blistering, and infection, which can occur. This is why we always recommend only seeking treatment from reputable skincare clinics with licensed practitioners who will always prioritize your safety and well-being.
